Can you get Chicken Pox twice?I want the total truth. I got it once and i did not have the shot. I still do not have the vaccination.
Are you serious? I cannot beleive it! Is it a good chance if you have no vaccination to get it twice from a person who had it.

You can get the same virus twice, but it shows up in a different form. If you contact the varicella virus a second time it is called shingles which hurts really bad!
Technically you can get chicken pox twice ONLY if you first got it when you were very young, under about a year of age. At this point your body is too immature to build up a proper immunity to it. This is very rare.
Even the vaccination isn't a for sure thing. Doctors now recommend two vaccines for the chicken pox and it is proving to wear off by the time the child reaches school age.

When you contract the virus once it is considered immunity similar to vaccination. It is extremely rare (but possible) to contract chicken pox again.
That being said, you never clear the virus from your system and it lays dormant. Under times of stress/immunocomprimise the virus can resurface locally in a syndrome called "shingles" which consists of painful itchy lesions along the distribution of a nerve (dermatome).

You won't get chicken pox twice - but you can get shingles (a very, very painful condition) because the virus stays dormant in your body and can sometimes flair up. By the way, in this day and age, how is it that you never got vaccinated?

You can get it twice because it happened to my friend, she had it as a kid, then had it again when she was in her 30's when her kids got it. but that doesn't happen very often. If you've already had it then I wouldn't worry about it, or you can get a blood test to tell if you have an immunity to it, it's called a titer. I had to get it for nursing school.
