Can you tell me if your child had a reaction to the chicken pox vaccine given at a year old? When my son got this a year ago he broke out in this horrible rash all over his body and it stayed for a very long time. He was uncomfortable and just not happy. One of the moms Im babysitting for is trying to find out if she should have this done to her son. Im not sure if my childs reaction was just an odd reaction and other kids have an easier time. If you can give me your experience with your child that will be helpful.

Sounds like he possibly got chicken pox from the vaccine...which is very possible. I have chosen to wait on the vaccine till my daughter is older, plus my Doctor hasn't even offered that vaccine yet and my daughter will be 2 in June. Each child will react or not react differently, that's the hard part about trying to compare different children.

I am all for vaccinations but this is one I said no to. Chicken pox if watched closely 99.9% of the time has no long lasting complications. My kids got it in Kinder. They both got one infected but I went straight to the doctor and got a script and neither have any scars as I gave them many porridge baths (a natural cure to stop the itchiness) and at night I gave them something to help the itch and to help them sleep. They were not sick at all, actually they were jumping on the trampoline everyday.
Then when they went to school , chicken pox swept through. And you know what? about 70% of the kids to get it had had the vaccination and they had it just as bad as my kids did. And on top of that they can get it again and again, one child was on their 3 rd dose. The one good thing about it is that it stops you getting shingles as an adult , but as that is not the most common thing to happen I took the risk and I am glad. The kids have neverr had it again (around 1% of kids will get it iagain after getting it (without vaccination)) and they were2 of about 10 kids left out of 40 in their year level at school that first year with the outbreak.
When it comes down to it it is a personal choice and yes reactions like your childs can happen but for a lot of kids there is no reaction. Trouble is you cannot tell till it is done how your kids will react (mine have reactions to all other vaccinations, red swelling that is so hot you can cook an egg on it and it takes up half the arm, but that won't stop me with the big ones. A few days discomfort is worth that they will not be exposed to terrible dieases that kill)

Sometimes the vaccine for Chicken Pox can give you Chicken Pox.
Generally I say let the kid get Chicken Pox. 99.9% of the time, if treated properly, there are no long lasting effects.
When I was 3, when the first child caught Chicken Pox, their parent's had a Pox Party so the rest of us would catch it.

My son at 1 years old got his MMR shots and it caused him to have a fever and rash all over his body. The doctor said that some kids get a bad reaction to it. But it goes away and never comes back. They become immune to it after the rash has passed. My other two had no reactions at all to any shots.

Both of my sons had chicken pox vaccines and neither had a reaction beyond the typical mild soreness & redness at the injection site. Unfortunately, like most things, every child reacts differently and her son might be perfectly fine. One thing is for sure, it's better to either get the vacination or catch it as a child. Chicken pox as an adult is worse; I speak from personal experience.
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
