My husband's 9 year old sister has chicken pox. His other sister is coming over. Will my baby catch it?

My husband's 9 year old sister has chicken pox. His other sister is coming over. Will my baby catch it?My daughter is 7 months old. My husband's sister is 16 years old, already had the chicken pox. She claims she wasn't around her 9 year old sister all week. I'm not sure how long the outbreak was or when she caught it, but I'm worried.

My husband's 16 year old sister is coming over to swim and my baby will be in the pool with her, my husband, and me. Is there a chance that she can be a carrier even if she already had the pox? Is it highly contagious? If the 9 yr. old w/ chicken pox were to come into my house, is it likely she'll get sick?

I told my husband we shouldn't have anyone in that family over until they all show no symptoms, but he's convinced my baby will be ok.

Suggestions? By the way, the 16 year old is on her way over here, so there's no telling her not to come, but I can tell her not to touch or breathe on my baby. I already hid her toys. I'm scared!

Since the 16 year old already had the chicken pox she is unlikely to be a carrier and wouldn't give it to the baby.

Even if the 9 year old came over as long as she didn't "touch" the baby - the little one would not get it.

Hi there.
Chicken pox is HIGHLY contagious.... BUT the person is only contagious for the 2weeks BEFORE the spots appear- although when my sons had the pox they were made to stay off school untill all the spots had 'scabbed over'.
The 16year old can be acarrier even if shes had it before.

As for her not touching the baby- pox is airborne, so simply being in the room together there is still a chance your baby will get the pox- but dont worry if your daughter does catch them, its better for them to catch it when they are young as they cant scratch the spots and this can lead to scarring.

My eldest son came out in spots the day after my youngest son was born- that was scary- but due to the fact i was breastfeeding my baby got all my antibodies and therefore didnt catch the pox.

If your daughter does catch them dont worry, its not the end of the world, just use calpol for her temp and plenty of moisturising calamine lotion and aquaious cream to rehydrate the skin, also a spoon of PYRITON will help stop the itch.

GOOD LUCK!!

it depends on how long ago the 9 yearold got the chickenpox and some people can be carriers even if they already had the chickpox before and how old is your baby cause there is a vacincie for chicken pox you know

i would b extremely careful as even though it is better 4 kids 2 get it young at that age it can be potentially dangerous. i am not saying she will get it but tread carefully.
if i was u i wouldnt let them come ova without the all clear (all of them) as i wouldnt want to risk it

You are a good mommy! And all should be fine. She's already had them, but if it would make you feel better, you can ask that she not touch your little one and relax, mommy.
