Any mom's switch their OBGYN mid pregnancy?

Any mom's switch their OBGYN mid pregnancy? My husband and I have an appointment for 19 weeks tomorrow morning, my OB has been worrying us from the begining. I feel like she doesn't really do anything at all for us, when concerns are voiced she just seems to blow us off. Yesterday I called and spoke to the receptionist to ask if she could do an ultrasound tomorrow to check baby's development (she did one at 9 weeks in office) I was told that despite my request she would NOT do an ultrasound she would just look over my bloodwork, check the heartbeat, and refer us...this really annoyed and upset me since she has had us worried from the last appointment, now we are going to have to wait another two weeks just for a little comfort? (She worried us at the last appointment because I had chickenpox the previous week, I was given medicine, and said she would refer us to a high rish specialist...then after waiting for 45 minutes she decided she wanted to wait until the next appointment, which is tomorrow.)
This is our first child and we are just really concerned and just want a little reassurance just her looking and seeing if the development is normal would make me be more excited like I want to be and not just worried and stressed out which I know is bad for our little guy..I feel like we can't even be happy and excited because she worried us so much then will do nothing about it? Just wanted some other mom's opinions is it worth switching Dr's? Am I over reacting? Did you switch doctors and all went well or is it just not worth it?
Thanks everyone!
**Tickled pink...She has made us worry from the start because I do have Thalessemia, my blood pressure was a little high from the start also and I am anemic (have been for a few years), so she has been running blood tests constantly to check and see if it will change (it wont). Members of the family have it and I explained to her its not going to change or make a difference, yet she is convinced it is so she had me taking over 800% the daily value of iron. Also I am well aware they do not do ultrasounds at every appointment BUT at the last appointment she spent 5 minutes telling us all about the things that could be wrong with baby, specifically deformed limbs or under developed ligaments..thats what I really want her to check for before she sends us to a high risk doctor which is going to cause more stress on my husband and I. Her looking would allow a little comfort but she refuses to do it, it just seems to me she wont give us the peace of mind we really need and we don't know why.
***Doodle, I know they are not meant to provide comfort, problem is this is our biggest concern so we can see what to do next. No matter what we are going to love him to the end of the world but every other side effect we would be able to deal with after without a problem, this one we would need to do a lot of preparing for, my other concern is she made it seem to us at least that if the baby does have serious deformaties within the ligaments there is a strong possibility he wouldn't survive long after birth, we just really want as much time as possible to deal with and understand whats going on with him. In my mind if he still looks good I can avoid doing the amnio (which she also has suggested) and the high risk doctor...just really worried, thank you for your answer =). Just wanted to fill you in.

I switched doctors mid-pregnancy because the doctor i was going to wasn't finding things that were problematic and he didn't seem to care about me as a patient. When i switched i learned that there are nice, wonderful caring doctors out there who are truly interested in your pregnancy. I would switch. Possibly interview them before choosing them. That way you have a clear signal as to how they go about business compared to how you want things done. My experience was great though, after switching that is. :)

i switched doctors half way through.. Where i am from there is only one doctor in our town. He is 'stuck in his ways' and after he would not helped me i got to my computer and found another doctor, she was very caring. I dont regret it at all. She took care of me and my high risk pregnancy. I drove an hour an a half away from our house every week to see her!
I encourage you to make the switch, if you are not happy with your doctor. Do what is right for you!

I switched drs with my first but it was because we moved so it didnt make sense to drive over an hour to the old one.
I have always seen drs with more than one dr in the practice. That way if you dont like one, the chances of you having to deal with that person are pretty small because there are more drs so you might not even see that dr more than once or twice.
I would go to your appointment and ask abou thte specialist, then go see the specialist and go from there.
If you do not like your dr then you can and should switch but let me tell you there are many out there who arent excactly the most patient friendly so you never know what you might be switching to.

Your obstetrician or midwife should be someone you completely trust and feel 100% comfortable around. If you feel like your current OB isn't giving you enough attention and/or taking anything you say seriously I would definitely find another one! You're not overreacting AT ALL. The first doctor I saw when I found out I was pregnant kept calling me Hillary (my name is Brittany), didn't answer any of my questions (just told me to look it up online or read a pregnancy book), and didn't look me in the eyes once during my entire appointment! I switched immediately and have been very happy ever since. The relationship between you and your OB/midwife is very important, so I think you should find one you really click with! Good luck :)

Yes, you can switch doctors. The real annoying thing is that you should have already been scheduled for your 20 week diagnostic structural ultrasound. Many offices are now doing that at 18 weeks instead of 20 due to improvements in machines.

I do have to point out something though. Ultrasounds are not meant to provide comfort. In many cases, the ultrasound won't reveal issues with the fetus. In others, they indicate problems that turn out to be nothing.

If you feel that your doctor is not answering your questions, that alone is reason enough to switch.
