Exposure to shingles during pregnancy??

Exposure to shingles during pregnancy??Okay, I am 21 years old and 21 weeks pregnant. I was at my mom's house last Monday and she wasn't feeling well. She started feeling really bad Thursday night and got this rash so, she went to the Doctor on Friday. Well, the doctor told her she has shingles. (A reoccurrence of the chicken pox virus in an older individual)

I have never had chicken pox, but I did have the vaccine when I was younger. I called my ob/gyn and he said it was too late to come in since it was Friday evening, but I have to go Monday to get my blood drawn to measure my titer levels and see if I still have immunity.

I am feeling fine and haven't had any strange symptoms. I am going to the doctor tomorrow afternoon, but I wanted to know if there was anything that I should be REALLY worried about??

Since you had the vaccine your baby will get your immunities to chicken pox and shingles. It works the same as if you have had chicken pox as a kid.

I think you'll be ok if you had the vaccine. also there is no definite exposure unless you were hugging your mom and having close contact.

It will partly depend on how long ago you had the vaccine. Immunities from vaccines are NOT lifetime immunities. Checking the titer is smart and the only way to know if you are immune. In reality the chances of you catching it are still probably pretty small since you were only around her for that one day. Good Luck to you.

Is there anything to worry about? Well, you know, you worry about everything! According to the site below, not much to worry about because you are not in early pregnancy.
