For those who did or are doing a delayed vaccine schedule when did you start vaccines, were there any you? With my now 2 yo there were certain vaccines I have never given her like rotovirus and chicken pox and the rest I just didnt allow combo shots. And never more then 2 in one visit. I didn't "delay them" though. I think with our second baby (due dec. 4) I'd like to do a delayed schedule as I really feel for our life style that it isn't necessary to give the baby so many vaccines so soon together and at such a young age. Did you delay them immediatly after birth, like not have them have the hep B vaccine while still in the hospital ect. How exactly did you do it? Is there a guide or something online?
Well I know one shot with this baby we will stay away from as we did with our daughter is the Rota vaccine. It like the chicken pox is really a "convience" vaccine and to me anything that isn't going to seriously protect them from something other then diarreah isn't going to happen. Rotavirus causes diarreah which can cause dehydration which can lead to children going to the hospital. The orignial form of this vaccine was taken off the market in 05' because it caused bowel obstructions and that was only noticed after 5 years using it. This newer version came out in late 06' so it's not even 3 years old yet. Not even old enough to show negative effects like the other did.
O and Prevnar or PCV protects from EAR INFECTIONS!!! Sure I will inject chemicals into my new babies body so they dont get a stinking ear infection! I know that ear infections can suck and especially for kids/babies but is that a good enough reason to shoot chemicals into their bodies? Not for me it isn't
Hannah- No I wasn't sorry. "Future" had said she needed some more info as she was interested in doing a delayed/selective schedule so I wanted to ive the info I have

My son is 5 months and he hasn't had any of his shots. I am going to wait at least until he is 2 and then only get one shot at a time. I totally agree with you about the combo shots. Also, I will probably not be getting him all the shots "they" want him to have.
Thanks for asking this question! I've been trying to do some research, but have no idea where to start! I hope someone has a good book or website to mention!

We opted out on several vaccines and are not going to give them to our children just tell the dr. that it is against your beliefs or for reasons of conscience also if you feel like skipping them completely like we did you can get a form from the gov that allows your child to go school with out having the vac. also
If you just want to delay tell the dr. that you will schedule a visit when you are comfortable and ready and you will give them a list a shots that you would like to be given to her and when you would like them to be given

you should get 'the vaccination book' by doctor sears. he's very pro-delayed vaccination and there's a shot schedule he made that delays them.
here's a forum discussion that speaks of the schedule:
http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=995581
Selective schedule:
2 months - DTaP, Rotavirus
3 months - PC, Hib
4 months - DTaP, Rotavirus
5 months - PC, Hib
6 months - DTaP, Rotavirus
7 months - PC, Hib
15 months - PC, Hib
5 years - Tetanus booster
10 years - Blood tests for measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, and hep A immunity. Consider vaccinating if not immune. Also consider a 3-dose polio series if travel to Africa or Asia is a possibility.
11 years - HPV (3 doses, girls only)
12 years - Hep B (3 doses)
Alternative schedule (if you want child to be fully immunized but spread things out a little):
2 months - DTaP, Rotavirus
3 months - PC, Hib
4 months - DTaP, Rotavirus
5 months - PC, Hib
6 months - DTaP, Rotavirus
7 months - PC, Hib
9 months - polio, flu (2 doses)
12 months - mumps, polio
15 months - Pc, Hib
18 months - DTaP, chickenpox
21 months - flu
2 years - rubella, polio
2 years, 6 months - Hep B, Hep A
3 years - Hep B, measles, flu
3 years, 6 months - Hep B, Hep A
4 years - DTaP, polio, flu
5 years - MMR, flu
6 years - chickenpox
12 years - Tdap, HPV (girls only)
12 years, 2 months - HPV (girls only)
13 years - HPV (girls only), meningococcal

I too plan on delaying and not doing some. I didn't do heb B at birth, but they're doing it according to dr. sears' 'alternative schedule' pretty much.
hope I helped!

we delay until 4 months and basically follow Dr. Stephanie Cave's vaccination schedule, except we do give prevnar. Which protects against several forms of meningitis and blood infection as well. Its not for ear infections :) It sounds like you would like that schedule though, google it our get her book from the library. I dont allow more than 3 in one visit, including combos... ie DTaP is the ONLY shot given b/c its a 3 in 1. Good Luck!
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
