I am concerned about pregnancy and the chicken pox?

I am concerned about pregnancy and the chicken pox?I am 5 months pregnant and found out yesterday that my friends father just came down with the chicken pox. We were at her house for 2 days with him. I have had the chicken pox once before when I was very young. What are the chances of catching this virus again and if so what effect could it have on my little baby?

Thanks

Well your docot should have agave you a test to see if you are immune or not. Call them and ask them if they can check your results for you and you are most likely immune after having them once already. So dont worry about.

You can't get the chicken pox again, if you already had it before. Even if there is a chance, it's a very small one. Like, 1% out off 100%.

You can get chicken pox again although its very unlikely and usually its only if your first case of it was very light. You can also get shingles from being around someone that has chicke pox and you can only get shingles if you have already had chicken pox. I would suggest you go to your doctor and let them know you were around an infected person. You very well might be fine but its better to get checked out.

While it is possible to come down with Chicken Pox more than once, it does not typically occur. Most second cases of Chicken Pox occur in people who had a very mild first case thus not building up adequate immunity the first time. The risk of being exposed to Chicken Pox while pregnant is to women who have never had it before. There is a small chance of complications for the baby if mom comes down with Chicken Pox, but coming down with it in early or late pregnancy are the most crucial times. Moms who get the chicken pox can come down with a form of pneumonia. You should probably contact your doctor to let him/her know you were exposed just to be sure. There is a test that they can do to test your immunity if they feel it is necessary. However, I think since you had them as a child that your doctor will say everything is fine.

You do have a chance of contracting it again if you had a very minor case. As far as pregnancy, chances are, baby will be fine even if you do get it. However, there is apparently some risk and you are right at the precipice of that (article says halfway through pregnancy). Contact your doctor's office and advise them.

My Aunt, who had a very minor case of chicken pox as a child, contracted chicken pox again while pregnant with her youngest (so, I would say she was in her late 20s). We were actually just talking about this not even a week ago. She was perhaps 3 months along at the time, but I do remember how very sick she was. My cousin is just fine though. NO problems.
