If having received the immunzation shot, can I get the chicken pox from someone with the shingles?

If having received the immunzation shot, can I get the chicken pox from someone with the shingles?Hello, I have never had the Chicken Pox. However, about two years ago, I got the immunzation shot from the doctor. My great-grandmother has the shingles. Is it safe for me to go over there being that I am immune to the chicken pox virus? or Because I have never had the virus, am I at risk?

Thanks!

Well first of all, a vaccine does not make you completely immune. It does give you a powerful and reliable form of protection from the disease but cannot protect you totally.

However, shingles is very related to chicken pox as i'm sure you know, so some of that immunity is for the shingles too.I would say it would be fine, but there is no 100 percent guarantee.

If you have never had chicken pox, you will not get shingles.

It's my understanding that when people get shingles, it's because they have had chicken pox at one point in their life. The virus stays in their body, and can come back up at some point, which would result in shingles. Since you have never had it, this wouldn't affect you. And especially since you had the vaccine.

Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
