is chicken pox a danger for pregnancy?i am approx 5 weeks pregnant.
we have told our immediate families but aren't telling anyone else until the 4th month.
my boss is not a nice person, and she has a big mouth, so i don't want to tell her yet. she belittles me and finds public humiliation of her staff very amusing. it infuriates me.
i work in a childcare centre and next week i have to work in a room where chicken pox was discovered on friday. therefore all the children were closely exposed to the virus during its most contagious stage.
I am very nervous and worried.
i have heard that chicken pox is dangerous for your baby while your pregnant..
HELP?

Unless you get them yourself, I dont think you have anything to worry about. It has to be able to cross the placenta, and in order to do that, you have to have it. I'm pretty sure your fine, but you could make a quick call to your Dr. and ask!

yes it is very dangerous, stay away from work from now on, you will have to tell your employer you are pregnant, make it very clear that if she tells anyone this confidential information than you will have her fired or sue because she is absolutley 100% not allowed to do that.
don't risk it!
good luck.

Have you had chicken pox before? If so, then there is no real threat.
"Firstly, if you have definitely had chicken pox before, there is no risk to the baby."
"1. Before 20 weeks - risk of chicken-pox syndrome. This is actually quite rare. Up until 14 weeks the risk is about 0.4%, whereas between 14-20 weeks it is 2%. If a woman has treatment (see below) after being exposed, the risk is even lower."
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
