Questions about chicken pox and vaccine?I have a couple questions. 1. if my kids have been exposed to chicken pox.. is it true they are only contagious between 1-2 days before the sores appear? and if they've had the vaccine, what's the chances that they will contract chicken pox. And if they are vaccinated, and exposed to chicken pox, are they still contagious even if they don't get it?

the gestation period for chicken pox is 14 to 21 days, children are contagious for 1-2 days before the "spots" appear to after the last sore dries up.If they have had the vaccine and are exposed there is a only very small chance of the illness presenting. If they get vaccinated and are exposed to chicken pox unless they develop it (a very small chance) they are not contagious.

Chicken Pox are contagious 1-2 days before the rash appears and continue to be contagious until ALL the pox have completely scabbed over. I do not know the official numbers as to what chance a vaccinated child will get Chicken Pox. From personal experience, I'd say about 1/2 of the children I know who have had Chicken Pox had gotten the vaccine. Neither vaccinated nor non-vaccinated children who are exposed to Chicken Pox are contagious if they do not develop Chicken Pox themselves. It is possible that someone will get Chicken Pox but will not have many spots nor be very sick, but are still contagious.

I had the chicken poxs shot and I still got the chicken pox.If your child is around someone who has it,the child may get it.
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
