Should I get a booster shot to prevent the chicken pox?

Should I get a booster shot to prevent the chicken pox?My friend has them, and I have never had them before. I was around her a few days before she got them, and she was contagious for 2 weeks before that. I have had the vaccine but I was wondering if it was too late to get a booster shot to prevent it.

Well - if you have had the vaccine you are mostly protected. There are recommendations now for a second shot (to act as a booster) as we have been seeing that the first vaccine does not protect fully.

However, in your case- you have already been exposed - patients with chickenpox can be contagious up to 10 days prior to an outbreak of the spots/rash. The booster would not help you.
