9 week old baby with chicken pox. Does he need to see a doctor if his throat is sore?

9 week old baby with chicken pox. Does he need to see a doctor if his throat is sore?I have just gotten over chickenpox and now my 9 week old has caught them from me. He has had the spots for 5 days now. I breastfeed so I know he will have plenty of antibodies to help fight the virus. When I had my chicken pox the doctor told me not to worry if the baby gets chicken pox and that it wouldn't be necessary to bring him to see a doctor. He seems happy enough and is still feeding well but im a bit worried about his throat. Since he came out in the spots his cry has become very squeaky like his throat is really sore. The pain makes him cry even more which subsequently makes his throat hurt him even more etc..I have been giving him calpol to help him sleep and relax. The main question is, is it normal for chicken pox to be accompanied by a sore throat? Should I take him to the doctor to be on the safe side or will it just pass on it's own? I was quite feverish and had aching joints but my throat wasn't sore. Apart from this he is very alert and happy and his spots seem to be scabbing over and healing well.

I had a sore throat when I had them, and I would go to doctors just to make sure, even if that means going to a different doctors. Also put some calamine lotion on the pox, it stops them hurting, and might ease your son. The crying could result in a sore throat. Try and not let him rub on them, as it may cause scarring, expecially on the main pox, mine was on my face and i have got a scar now
Hope he gets well soon

A baby that young should be seen by a doctor and as soon as possible. Chicken pox lesions can develop anywhere, even the eye and throat and lungs.

He might have chicken pox in his throat. I had them there when I was two years old and had the same sore throat sound.

See the doctor. Have the throat examined. have his ears checked too.

At the very, very least, fevers causes damage to developing teeth, coating or enamel.

There could be pneumonia, or simply ear complications, related, and not minor in an infant.

Then if he caught a strep bacteria in his throat, it leads to rheumatic fever and damages heart valves.

Remember, never ever give a child Aspirin - it isn't an option, causing Reye's Syndrome. And ask before giving any other pediatric meds also.

Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
