Big Red Hot Itchy Bump after chicken pox shot?

Big Red Hot Itchy Bump after chicken pox shot?I got a chicken pox shot a day or two ago, and I noticed that after taking the bandage off, I got a very huge red bump. It's itching and when I touch it, it's very hot, like it has a fever of its own!
First off, is this normal?? Secondly, what should I do to decrease the swelling and pain? My shoulder is also hurting because of it..?

Answer by The Pretender
Sounds like you're having a bit of a reaction to the vaccination. Put ice on it for about twenty minutes to see if that helps. You can also take an antihistamine like Benadryl, which could help with the swelling and pain. Watch yourself and make sure you don't start developing a fever. That could signify a more important full body reaction to the shot, in which case you should seek medical attention ASAP.

The chicken pox shot is a live vaccine, so you probably just have a chicken pock on the injection site. I would just hold some ice over it, its probably not a big deal. If it doesn't go away after a few days, contact the place that gave you the shot.

Normal,Your body is learning to recognize a germ when it sees it.It should go away 48 hours after injection. If it's still there, see a doctor.Put ice to ease the swelling.

It's normal to have fever after vaccination, but I am not sure along with the inflammation you also have a fever.

Seeking advice from the person who took the chicken pox shot or another doctor's opinion is advisable.
