How long after the chicken pox virus hits your body do you start producing antibodies? Is it straight away?

How long after the chicken pox virus hits your body do you start producing antibodies? Is it straight away? The reason I'm asking is that I have just been diagnosed with chicken pox. I am 24 and this is the first time I have had chicken pox. I have an 8 week old son who I am breasfeeding. My doctor told me to continue breastfeeding as normal and that there was no need to express. I know I cant pass chicken pox to my baby through the milk itself but both breasts are absolutely covered in the spots and im worried about about passing on the virus with the spots being so close to his face. The doctor is well aware of the spots on my breast. So why would she advise me to keep feeding as normal? Even though this is my first time with chicken pox (im 24) will I have antibodies in my milk that can protect him from getting the virus? Or will I not make antibodies until the virus has left my system?

it starts as soon as your body realizes that the disease is there.

Yes, ASAP, and predictable. But it is not a cure - the disease runs its course with help from your immune system. Chicken pox are highly contagious.

Actually your B cells start making antibodies in a few days after the rashes appear. The peak of your antibodies is in 2-3 weeks after signs and symptoms show. I would say something to your doctor about the location of the poxes and ask if you should just pump until you get better. Your baby has all of antibodies for the first 6 months of it's life until it's body starts producing it's own. But if you didn't have chicken poxes before the pregnancy, then there is a chance the baby might get it. Just give your doctor a call. What's he going to do, ignore your call? Haha It will all be fine.
