Can shingles give you chicken pox again? My son had chicken pox when he was young, now I think at 25 he has developed shingles (located on his back) but now he has a few spots on his face and forehead... can he get chicken pox again from his shingle outbreak?
Answer by Jason
No, you only get Chicken Pox once, then that's it, he's immune to it. It must be a some form of rash.

No. The immunity is permanent, unlike the temporary immunity of vaccines. In regard to the rash, you should be looking at liver toxicity and poor digestion, especially if he is eating lots of carbs, energy drinks, sodas, and bad fats.
good luck to you

That question is a little difficult to give a straight answer to. Here's the deal: when someone gets chicken pox (varicella-zoster), after the initial infection the virus goes dormant and resides in the sensory ganglia (part of the nervous system). At any point, even years down the road, that virus can become active again, but typically remains active only within that nerve root distribution, causing the typical pattern of shingles (herpes zoster). Basically, shingles IS chicken pox (the same virus, just as contagious), but restricted to one area along a nerve.
The pattern can occur along any nerve distribution (or dermatome), but typically is restricted to only that area. What you usually see is a line of small eruptions with red, itchy skin around them, often starting on one side of the spine and following along a rib around to the front (though they can occur anywhere). If they seem to cross the midline or are fairly random, then it's likely not shingles. It's pretty unlikely to have a shingles outbreak on both sides of the body at the same time, unless the person is somehow immunocompromised (i.e. weakened immune system from certain meds like steroids or organ transplant meds, or certain diseases like HIV). Immunocompromised patients can get disseminated zoster from a shingles outbreak.
That being said, if this has a typical pattern for shingles and your son has a normal immune system, it is possible for people to have a few scattered eruptions in other places away from the shingles. That can be normal. However, if it continues to spread all over, he should be checked again to make sure that it's not something other than shingles or, if it is shingles, that his immune system is ok.
Good luck! Hope he feels better soon!

You can NOT get chicken pox from shingles. You get shingles from chicken pox. So those spot on his face could be something else or part of the shingles. He should go to the doctor and get it looked at. And to the person that said you can only get chicken pox once that's a lie! I got it twice along with a bunch of other people. The first outbreak was barley anything, but the second one was hard core. Just so you know for future reference.
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
