Can someone who has never had the chicken pox contract it from someone who currently has the Shingles?


Can someone who has never had the chicken pox contract it from someone who currently has the Shingles?My daughter hasn't ever had the chicken pox or the vacination, her step sister has been diagnosed with Shingles.

YUP! if your daughter is over a year get her vaccinated or if shes already been exposed buy lots of that pink liquid so she wont scratch

Yes, infact you are at a risk too. You should also get a shot if you are not immune.

I would be careful about the vaccination... this needs to happen within an appropriate time range from time of exposure.

In terms of Infection Prevention and Control, your daughter is considered a contact. As such, if she were to enter a healthcare facility, she would be isolated on Airborne Precautions from day 10-21 after the last contact with her step sister. If she gets the varicella zoster immune globulin (this is not the vaccine), the isolation period is extended from day 10-28.
