Chicken pox and Pregnancy?

Chicken pox and Pregnancy?I am 21 yrs old and 33 weeks pregnant. My 8 year old sister has just gotten the chicken pox. Is there any risk to my baby or to me? I am quite worried about this and due to a strike between nurses and midwifes in Ireland I cant get throught to the hospital.

i would keep WELL AWAY until it is safe. Have u had it before?? It is highly contageous and I just would not be prepared to take the risk, its not worth it. Try calling the NHS Direct, they will tell u for sure. Look in yellow pages the number is in there

Pregnant women in the first two trimesters of pregnancy who have not had chicken pox may be at increased risk for more serious illness. There is a small risk the virus may affect the developing fetus. But it depends, most of the chicken pox are most spreadable before you see the spot's, like that ones in the scalp, stear clear until you can get the okay from a GP!!

i had a smiler problem when i was pregnant with my last child the midwifes told me the baby would be fine since i was over 12 weeks and it had fully developed all its organs plus it also helps if u have had them b4 as the baby will get antibodies thru the placenta. hope this helps but if ur still worried u could try asking ur dr
