Chicken pox danger for 5 month old?

Chicken pox danger for 5 month old?My mom has just been diagnosed with Shingles. She's had it 3 times in the past so we know that it is possible for someone to catch chicken pox from shingles. My baby is 5 months old. Should I get her away from my mom and keep her away for a while? What are the risks of a baby getting chicken pox? How dangerous is it if they do? I breastfeed her exclusively. I have had the chicken pox.

I had chicken pox when I was that age. It is the best age to have it because they don't scratch themselves.

If you don't want her having it yet then keep her away from your mom. I don't know how bad it would be for a 5 month old to have chickenpox, maybe call and ask the Dr tomorrow. It might be good to get it so young and just have it be done with. But on the other side it might be a lot for such a little one to handle.
If it were me, I would keep her away because 5 months seems so young to have it.

My daughter was exposed to chicken pox before she was a year old and could get the vaccine. The earlier in life one gets the the chicken pox, the less severe it will be.

If over a year they recommend that you be vaccinated within 24 hours of exposure.

Luckily my daughter didn't end up catching it even though she was exposed. She was only a week shy of her first birthday and wasn't eligible for the vaccine, so I was really upset! Thankful though that she didn't get it (whew!). I would keep your daughter away from your mom. It's a tough situation though - she must have a compromised immune system that she keeps getting shingles??? And since your contagious before you exhibit symptoms, the next round of shingles on your mom might mean spreading it to baby when grandma thinks she's healthy.
