Would you be concerned about this before becoming pregnant? So my husband and I are thinking about having another baby (we have a 2 yr. old daughter). The other day I came across a site that was discussing chicken pox and the very harmful effects they can have on pregnant women and their babies. Well, I don't know if I've ever had chicken pox, I don't remember having them and my mom isn't sure, she thinks so but can't remember either. There is a simple blood test I can do to find out if I am immune to them or not but it's kinda pricey and insurance won't cover it. Do you think I'm being overly cautious, or should I go ahead and do the blood test?
I know with my first pregnancy they checked for MMR and I was immune, but I don't think they checked for varicella...

it wouldn't even cross my mind as something to worry about.
avoid children with chicken pox until after your baby is born, or try to expose your 2 yr old before you get pregnant.

if you get prgnant they check you for it, ask your ob dr you had your 2 year old with and see if he can tell you from your medical records he has from your blood test

When I had the chickenpox immunity blood screen about 6 months ago it cost me $ 23 and insurance didn't pay for it. If you've been given a very high price then check out other hospitals and labs and I bet you'll find a better rate.

I would talk to your doctor about this. Is the risks of you harming yourself and the baby is high and you are really unsure you should take the blood test.
Or maybe you could get the chicken pox vac before getting pregnant. Not sure if it works in the adult years, but again speak with your doctor.
Intresting fear, I've never heard of someone not knowing if they had chicken pox (I got them 2 times, lovely).
Good luck in your research.

I think you are worrying too much.
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
