Could a person have shingles if he or she never in their life had chicken pox?I had an episode of shingles when my immune system was down (after crash and fracture), I thought due to exposion to the cold from heat. went to ER was told I had it because my body still carries a virus of chicken pox, they did not believe I never had chicken pox in my life.
I haven't had one or any other "child" diseases
My family claim so too.

They didn't believe you because it is impossible to get shingles unless you have had chicken pox. Shingles is a reactivation of the virus that causes chicken pox. The only way you can get shingles is if you had chicken pox at some point. In order to get shingles, you must have had chicken pox at some point in your life.
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
