how likely is it that my daughter will catch chicken pox?She was at the childminder's on Thurs and friday last week, with another child, who then got the spots on sunday.
i know the incubation period is 10-21 days, but there is so much conflicting advice about when it starts being contagious.
She would have been playing at toddler groups in the mornings of thurs and fri, and at the childminder's house for lunch together. My daughter then sleeps after lunch and the other child goes home earlier, like when my duaghter wakes so they wouldnt be playing together in the afternoon.
Normally i wouldnt be worrying, as i know its good for them to get it young, but we are meant to be flying to spain on 12th April for a long awaited holiday that cost ALOT of money :(
I guess there's a 50/50 chance of her getting it, but wondered what everyone thought? how much contact do they need with the infected person?
Im so worried!!

From personal experience, your child has a good chance of being infected with chickenpox from the other child. My oldest daughter came home from school with it and when she was just about well, my 3 other daughters and I got it. I was 29 years old but was really lucky and did not have to be hospitalized like some adults do who get chickenpox in adulthood. Below is information from a website I found.
"Chickenpox is caused by the varicella zoster virus and is very contagious. If you haven't had chickenpox before and someone you live with has it, you have a very high chance of catching it.
The virus is usually transferred from person to person through the air in the fine spray of saliva or mucous droplets when you cough or sneeze. It can also be passed from person to person through contact with the fluid from chickenpox blisters, either from a person who is infected or by items such as clothing that have been in contact with broken blisters. If you have chickenpox, you can pass the virus on about ONE to TWO DAYS before the rash breaks out. You remain infectious until your spots have crusted over, usually five to six days after the illness starts. Children should be kept home from school or nursery during this time."
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
