You're going to have about a week and a half of dealing with them. Go ahead and get some oatmeal baths ready and strap in for the ride.

not much you can do. the next question is: why didn,t you get the required vaccines for this when you were a kid? i,m amazed at the apparent ignorance and indifference to readily available vaccines that many so called educated adults display. i,m not dissing you personally. i,ve had these illnesses as a kid in the 50,s. they,re horrible, and often life threatening. i keep my shot card up to date. go to the centers for disease control. see what shots you need to avoid these nasty, and preventable illnesses.

I also had it when I was 25, and it can be serious in adults. I don't want to alarm you, but please take extra care and don't hesitate to call your doctor if you need help. I was turned away from the E.R. twice because I was contagious, and had to be direct-admitted by my doctor. By then, I had developed pericarditis and meningo-encephalitis. However, I also had mononucleosis & just had surgery so my immune system was especially compromised. I had a doctor who insisted that chicken pox was "nothing" and I would be fine to have surgery, even though I knew I had been exposed. He was very wrong. I'm telling you all this not to scare you, but because being forewarned is forearmed. I would have loved to have someone warn me ahead of time, to avoid what I went through.
No matter how badly you wish to, do not scratch! You'll regret it terribly for the rest of your life. I have the scars to prove it, and everybody thinks they are acne scars. There are anti-itch creams & lotions, and you can ask your doctor if it is ok to use a benzocaine spray that has a little bit of numbing agent in it, this may help. Don't use it near your eyes, however. Here is a link:
Americaine Benzocaine Topical Anesthetic Spray:

The pox lesions crust over (yes, they're gross) and when they dry like this they itch all the more, so keep your skin moist with cool showers & soothing anti-itch lotions if you can tolerate them.
These pox lesions can go everywhere inside & out, so lay low & rest as much as you can. I noticed that the pox itched much worse if I had a fever or was warm, so take frequent cool showers and don't have the room overheated if you can help it. Plan for as many distractions as you can, such as terrific movie rentals to have on hand, phone calls with friends, anything to keep your mind off of the itching as much as possible. Warn any visitors that you are contagious if they have not had chicken pox before. I don't know if the elderly need to worry about contracting shingles from you (shingles is when the chicken pox virus comes back to haunt us later in life; not sure how that works).
You'll be miserable, but hopefully you will not have a bad case like I did. With my immune system already attacked by mono & surgery, I had no defenses left to fight the chicken pox, unlike yourself. It will be a looong week, but it will pass! Each case is different, so I don't know what to advise you about how it will affect you. Do not overdose on Benadryl, because I was warned this could affect the heart. Just take it as prescribed--do ask your doctor how much you are allowed to safely take for the chicken pox. Wish you the best, I truly feel for you.

Orange - there is lots you can do.
First, don't panic. Great job for coming on here to find a solution. I too had Chicken Pox as an adult, so I know what you're going through, and I was scared and didn't think there was anything I could do. And what made things worse is the doctor told me there is nothing I can do, except take these drugs or try this harmful lotion filled with chemicals. Wasn't very uplifting.
The best way to get rid of this is to ACT NOW. Don't "sit and wait" and hope it will get better.
There are natural home remedies to stop the itchiness, there are specific natural oils, natural lotions, and ingredients you can apply to your body (Vitamin E Oil, Honey, etc), there are bathing procedures that are effective and WORK... and yes, DIET is important too because you need your immune system strong to fight off this virus ASAP. This is a virus inside your body that has spread throughout your cells. You need to cleanse and get rid of it.
If you are looking for a fast and effective way to cure Chicken Pox, then I suggest you check out this website. It has information for you that will tell you how to cure Chicken Pox in less than 3 days, already worked for a lot of people.
