Yes, as the same virus that causes chicken pox is Shingles as an adult & that is VERY painful. It is also worse to get mear chicken pox as an adult.

I think it's different now-a-days.
My mom made me sit next to my sister when she had the pox, I was five. But I don't think there is any risk anymore as long as they get their immunizations for chicken pox.

The older you get the worse chicken pox can be, but many people get them in adulthood and do just fine. When you do reach puberty if you still have not gotten them the doctor can give to an immunization called varicella that prevents you from getting it. A shot is a whole lot better than chicken pox. In older people chicken pox breaks out in the form of shingles, but at age 65 you can also get an immunization for that.

Chicken Pox, like Mumps, can cause low or no sperm production in males who get the disease after puberty. There is a vaccine for both diseases.
