My 3 year old may have been exposed to chicken pox?Yesterday a friend of mine was here with her baby and to day she says that her and the baby have chicken pox! I had it when I was in fifth grade and my son completed his scheduled vaccine for it, so I was wondering the chances of us getting sick?

If you've had it, then you should be okay. Your son, on the other hand, is at risk. It's certainly not a good thing, but chicken pox is common in young kids and easily treated, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Well, you are in no danger at all since chicken pox only happens once in a life time. About your son...when was his vaccine? How many months ago? If it was about two months ago, then there's a little chance he can get it since it was just recently, but if it was maybe nine or ten months ago, ask your doctor about your risk chances? Do you have your pedia's number? You can call him and ask. If your son DOES get chicken pox (hopefully not, though) don't worry because chicken pox are only dangerous to adults. I've never gotten chicken pox so I'm gonna be in real trouble if I'm 50 and I do get it. But the younger age you get chicken pox, the better because when kids are young, they won't really remember the horrible week they were so red and itchy while I, a teenager, will probably remember every moment of it it I do get it. Good luck! :)

You wouldn't get it again, but he might. But don't worry, at 3 the worst problems you're likely to have with him is keeping him from scratching too much.
There are four of us children in my family and all four of us got chickenpox within a week of each other. I was ten and my youngest sibling was four. It was the older kids who had the roughest time of it.

You and your son are actually both at risk.
If you've already had the Chicken Pox, there is a chance you can get it again. It's called Shingles.
And while your son has the vaccine, there is still a chance to get it. The vaccine isn't designed to prevent Chicken Pox, only to make it more mild when you get it. I hope neither of you get it though!
For your friend, tell her to check out this website: http://bit.ly/hLRgTl
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
