Shingles questions for those who've experienced this...?I was diagnosed with shingles yesterday after being in agony for weeks. The doctor prescribed an anti-viral med not expecting that to be effective at this point as I already have a spot on my ankle. He also prescribed hydrocodone for the pain. My question is...if anyone has had shingles how long did it last and do they have suggestions for home remedies to alleviate my pain? I'd also be glad to hear how long other people's bouts with shingles lasted and what I can expect. I am only 40 years old so wasn't expecting this diagnosis. But as I am a new mother of a 1 year old I have apparently not been getting enough rest and my immune system has probably weakened allowing the chicken pox virus to reactivate. And yes, I did have chicken pox as a child...so that was also surprising to learn I could get the virus again. But I guess it happens according to my doctor.
Thanks for your info --- what did he prescribe for ringworm? And did your whole body ache too? If so, for how long?

well im 13 and i got shingles from my friend cause i slept over and didn't think it was contagious but unfortunately it is -___-
but anyways mines lasted two weeks ; my doctor treated it as ringworms so it could go away faster .
hope it helped :D
also , yeah my entire body ached and itched for about like 3 days and i felt pretty sore and he told me not to do anything and just lie in bed . he prescribed Lamisil, Monistat-Derm, Griseofulvin , corticosteroids according to my mom. the first two are creams and the third and fourth one are pills. also what i did to get rid of it faster was take 4 one hour showers and washed the rashy stuff of with soap water and burow's solution .

I was 34 when I had shingles. And it was the same situation - not enough rest and I had also gotten a sunburn on my legs, which weakened my immune system.
The anti-viral meds supposedly don't help much after 72 hours has passed since your first symptoms.
The pain will last, and some numbness too. I had it on my face and my chin and part of my cheek are still numb almost 18 months later.
But whatever you do, don't pick at the blisters. Also, I assume your child has been vaccinated against chicken pox? Sometimes a person with shingles can pass along the virus to a youngster who hasn't yet had chicken pox, but usually only early in their shingles outbreak.

"MAY - Springtime" Foreman's photos around Benissa, Spain
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Benissa, Spain by TravelPod blogger Foreman titled "MAY - Springtime". TravelPod is a company of TripAdvisor™. Foreman's travel blog entry: "Finally gettting warmer!! This is a good thing considering we moved to Spain for the weather! May has been good, with the children swimming most days, after, what everybody tells me is, an unseasonably cold winter.... uh huh.. I'm nearly tempted to pack away the thermals and winter jackets. Of course, it wasn't really that bad, it's just that I'm partial to the sun and warmth, and I have been warned that there's an abudance of both, still to come. A new experience for our family this month, was Chicken Pox, (known as its 'correct' name of Varicella here). For some reason, none of the children had ever caught it, but as is the way, it was 'going around', and Greta managed to pick it up, with no other symptons, other than a couple of spots, (actually about 8 in total). A pathetic effort but none-the-less it ensured her some legal time off school. As you can imagine, thinking that's all there is to it, the other kids are desperate for their turn. Trent had a bout a couple of weeks later, but that's it so far. Apart from that, there was the normal everyday 'stuff' that keeps us busy: *Trent's first football game (see photos) - a defining moment in the Foreman rugby household *Childrens school trips, which although very expensive here are absolutely fantastic! Harrison just spent a day ...
