Was i born with chicken pox?my mom had it during her pregnancy but it didn't affect me cuz i never get sick and have no problems except for a little asthma and now at 16 we moved and the nurse at school asked if i ever had chickenpox and she basically shouted at me cuz i told her i was born with it cuz when i was born i had several spots and i wanna kno if thats possible

Yes. It actually is possible for a newborn to develop chicken pox if the mother had it right before her child is born. Otherwise, it's not possible because the baby would be protected from the varicella virus.

If your mom had active chicken pox when you were born then you could have developed it as a newborn. Chickenpox in a newborn can be very dangerous though. Besides the normal newborn course of hospitalization, were you kept longer?

The only real way to know if you're immune to chickenpox at this point in your life is to have a Varicella titer blood test done. It will determine if you were ever exposed enough for your body to make antibodies against the virus and consider you immune.

Why would the nurse yell at you? She needs a new job!
