What type of doctor should I be?I want to become a doctor but I don't know what kind. I used to want to become a veterinarian when I was younger but then I found out I had to do surgery. I thought I would only have do check ups.
Then I wanted to become an obstetrician but then I found out that I might have to perform an emergency c-section. I'm still debated whether or not I really wanted to do that.
So I was watching discovery health and saw the doctors that take the baby after birth like the people that wipe the baby off, suction the nose etc. I think I maybe interested in that but I don't know what type of doctor that is. If it's a pediatrician that I don't want to be that either because I only want to work with newborn babies not children with sicknesses such as a cold, diarrhea, chicken pox o a fever.
Please help me I need to know and soon!!

I don't think it is a doctor. I am not sure but it could be a delivery room technition.
Why would you want to be a doctor? The insurance rates for them are outrageous. Hardly affordable.
Instead why not go into Medical research? There is no insurance to pay and the pay is really good!

No matter what kind of doctor you study for you'll be trained in surgery...A nurse is the one most likely to suction a newborn - maybe you should be a nurse - they don't do surgery...but remember, not every newborn is in perfect health-~~~~~so maybe not a nurse either..Might want to rethink your vocation.

Sounds like you don't want to be a doctor. It seems like you only want the title of a doctor but you dont want to do any of the dirty work that's involved. As a resident you will have to do it all at some point. Maybe becoming an anestheiologist is better suited for you; but in all honesty, if I knew that I was going be a heartbeat away from death, I wouldn't feel comfortable in the care of a doctor that dosnt seem to really want to help people. Maybe you should consider an office job.

First of all, every medical student and intern has to go through a rotation of surgery.
The doctor who take care of babies soon after birth would be a pediatrician or neonatal pediatrician.
First I'd ask, how old are you? You probably have time to change some of your views if you are serious.
When somebody goes through medical school they are exposed to just about every field of medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gastroenterology, hematology, all of the -ologys. That would give you a chance to learn. You do not walk in the first day of medical school and have to declare a specialty.
But if you want to be a Doctor but don't want to deal with colds, diarrhea, chicken pox or fevers, frankly, you might want to look into something else. If you would not be able to perform surgery, even after training, then it probably is not for you even if you went to a different field. But you never know, I'm sure there are doctors who did not think they could stomach it at first.

I believe you are thinking of neonatology. That is the care of a newborn after delivery that is at high-risk and may be ill at the time of birth. They help coordinate its care while in the hospital before he or she goes home. Neonatologists are around at the time of birth if a problem is suspected or anticipated. The only other "baby" doctors around at the time of birth are the obstetricians and pediatricians.
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
