It is a form of herpes, because Chicken Pox is a non- sexually transmitted form of herpes.

Chicken pox and the rash your child currently has are caused by a virus related to the STD virus, but not identical to the STD Virus!

The scientific name for Chicken Pox is Herpes Zoster.

The diagnosis of Herpes Zoster is not any indication whatsoever of your child having been sexually active or molested.

The virus that causes the STD called Herpes, is Herpes Simplex 2, not Herpes Zoster.

There are at least 3 common kinds of herpes:

1)Herpes Zoster which causes chicken pox, rashes, and shingles
2) Herpes Simplex Type 1 which causes cold sores.
3) Herpes Simplex Type 2 which is a STD & causes genital sores.

This (Herpes Zoster) is also the same virus which causes Shingles. You can probably use an anti-itch cream such as hydrocortisone on it (also commonly used for other itchy problems such as poison ivy)- ask your pharmacist.

Don't worry. This is just a nuisance as the common cold-sore is, not usually life threatening . Just make sure your son doesn't touch it much, and if he does, he needs to wash his hands.

Otherwise he could spread it to other parts of the body -particularly the eyes... and if it gets in the eyes it hurts like heck and can cause permanent damage to eyesight!

Well I don't really know much about Herpes, but I do know there are like 2 types of Herpes. The first kind of Herpes is like a coldsore on your mouth or around there. You actually get the virus and it stays in your body (not a serious virus) and it will come back then and again, putting coldsores on the mouth or in the mouth area. The second kind of Herpes is a sexual disease, which you say you know for sure he's had nothing sexual happen to him. I would go back to a doctor and ask about the Herpes.

I had it in the back of my mouth around my tonsils when I was around the same age, it was called Herpes Simplex. I was told that it would never really go away, but I've not seen sight nor sound of it for 28 years.

There was no reason for me getting it, you'd need to look it up on the web to get a better understanding of it.

this has nothing to do with sex - the herpes has come from the Chicken Pox jab. Once the virus is in the body its there for life. Stress, shock, poor health and sunlight are some of the main triggers. This is also the virus which causes Shingles. There are now creams and ointments which you can use - ask your pharmacist..... don't worry - a nuisance as the common cold-sore is, it is not life threatening . Just make sure you don't spread to other parts of the body -particularly the eyes.
