Chickenpox (varicella), a viral illness characterized by a very itchy red rash
The onset of symptoms is seven to 21 days after exposure. The disease is most contagious a day before the rash appears and up to seven days after, or until the rash forms scabs.
Chickenpox appears as a very itchy rash that spreads from the torso to the neck, face, and limbs. Lasting seven to 10 days, the rash progresses from red bumps to fluid-filled blisters (vesicles) that drain and scab over. Vesicles may also appear in the mouth, around the eyes, or on the genitals and can be very painful.

Smallpox (also called variola) is the only disease that has been completely wiped out throughout the world.

The lesions in small pox and chicken pox look very similar. One of the primary differences is that small pox skin lesions all appear at the same time where chicken pox lesions come and go on different parts of the bodies at different times. Doctors can tell small pox because all the lesions look about the same, where with chicken pox, you have lesions that are in different stages of healing. As others have pointed out above, small pox has been eradicated from the wild and exists only in biocontainment labs for research purposes.

It is possible that you have chicken pox, but it is also possible that you have one of several other conditions that manifests itself as a skin rash. Other systemic diseases, skin diseases, and allergies can all present with skins conditions like the one you describe.

If you go to your doctor, (s)he will be better able to assess your particular disease and provide any appropriate treatment.
