Chicken Pox is cause by the varicelle virus. There is no way to minimize it. It must run it's course. It is usually contagious when the soars contain fluid. Once they start to dry up it is no longer contagious. The best way to minimize scarring is to NOT scratch them. Put some calamine lotion or cornmeal on them to help minimize the itching.

If you don't have it yet, the best thing is to get immunized. They have a vaccine for chicken pox now.
If you already have it, your doctor may prescribe acyclovir or another antiviral drug. Otherwise, the best course of treatment is bed rest, acetaminophen (Tylenol) for fever if needed, antihistamines and calamine lotion to reduce the itching. Baths of oatmeal (Aveeno) or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) can also help reduce itching. Keep the skin clean to avoid bacterial infection.
NEVER take aspirin for chicken pox! It can cause the dangerous disease Reye's Syndrome.
If you are an adult, SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY. Chicken pox is only a minor illness in children, but it can be very dangerous in adults.

Drink a lot of echinacea and goldenseal tea. Take lot's of vitamin C. This can help the immune system and can help shorten it. Oh and use lots of jojoba and vitamin E oil to keep the scars away. Also do not scratch. Scratching causes scars more than anything.
Get the facts on the chickenpox vaccine, treatment, causes (varicella zoster virus, VZV), symptoms and signs (itchy, red rash).
